Il était l’un des rares intellectuels juifs à avoir osé franchir le pas, non seulement en défendant corps et âme la cause palestinienne, mais rejoignant l’Organisation de Libération de Palestine (OLP) de Yasser Arafat à une époque où celle-ci était honnie un peu partout, qualifiée par les responsables israéliens et américains d’«organisation terroriste». Il lui avait fallu abattre un double mur, celui de l’opprobe et de la haine pour les uns, celui de l’extrême méfiance pour ceux dont ils rejoignaient la cause. Personnage singulier s’il en est, amoureux fou de politique, mais tout autant fou amoureux de la vie, goûtant les fêtes et la musique, Ilan Halevi s’est éteint mercredi à Clichy. Il avait 70 ans.
